O’Tooles 4-22 St Catherines 0-5
The Minor Hurlers started this years championship campaign with a convincing win v St Catherines this morning. The lads made the best of limited space on a small pitch in Hunters Run Park to put up a big scoreline with some outstanding individual performances.
By the first water break on 15 mins O’Tooles were 7 points up with some great early points from Con Rock, Luke Webster and Sean McHugh. Shortly after the restart Luke Fennelley rattled the net from a 30 metre free and the team really hit top gear from there on. Daniel O’Neill, in goal, gave an exhibition with a series of fine puckouts, clearances and even pulled off a great point blank save to keep the clean sheet in-tact. Best of the backs were Jack Stone, Fionn Rock and Liam Kiernan.
Aaron O’Neill put in a huge shift and was dominant in midfield but the day belonged to the forwards with all six up front putting in excellent performances. Con Rock was imperious picking up a tally of 2-10 from play and unlucky to also have a goal disallowed. Wing Forward Luke Fennelley is also worthy a special mention chipping in with 1-6.
All in all, it was a great team performance. Here’s hoping that they can maintain this tempo for the next two matches in the group stages in the coming weeks.
The Minor hurlers are out again on Wednesday week 5 August at 7:30pm in Blunden Drive. Please come out and support the lads.
