Otooles ladies winners of the junior B championship and playing in dub 3 vs
Castleknock came down from intermediate championship and plying their trade
in div 2. A warm Wednesday night and two teams where ready to go to war and
by Jaysis that’s exactly what they did. After one minute the full back from
Castleknock came thru Katie maher with her whole body weight and our main
goal scorer was gone for the game not even a card shown and an Otooles
player was on her way to hospital. Otooles where in shock for the next 20
minutes as Castleknock imposed the superior size and strength all over the
pitch and where 3-1 to 0-2 after 20 mins. Abby the octopus brown was having
a stormer but had to come off injured, it was going from bad to worse as we
only had 3 subs and 2 used inside 20 mins. A few ears where roasted as the
3 managers got instructions on to the pitch and Otooles rolled up their
sleeves and got stuck sticking over 3 unanswered points before half time.
If Alex Ferguson gave hairdryer treatment Otooles management gave hugs and
encouragement and told the girls that they were wearing a famous fu***ng
crest, now go out and do it proud and by god that’s what they did. They
hunted Castleknock down like wolves and picked off points that you wouldn’t
see in crokepark on the 3rd Sunday in September. With ten minutes left boom
Otooles hit the onion bag and it was level, from the lockout Rachel Douglas
got a spectacular point to put us 1 you. It was tit for tat a high ball
into the square and Lyndsey brown punched it into the net. Yee hah 4 up or
not, the ref called a square ball from some where in clarehall. Heading
into the last 5 minutes the Otooles keeper Beth O’Reilly pulled off a
string of saves that packie bonnar would have endorsed. A good long range
point from Castleknock and it was level in injury time. Where’s the
whistle? Castleknock won the kick out and dropped a boomer into the square
but sandy Maloney pulled it out of the air like Mick Lyons from the famous
Meath team of the 80s and ploughed it out the field.to be fair the
Castleknock midfielder caught it and worked it in and stuck a point over.
Game over. Castleknock manager said Otooles where the most skilful and
toughest team he had seen in years and should not be to down, by Jaysis
they won’t we are back out on Monday night in the championship against the
guards at 7.30. No rest for the wicked!
